Now that same friend has come looking for a favor - protect a frightened, injured woman. Karissa Donovan's life is in jeopardy. Evil wants to use her to destroy the Paladins. She is one of the last female Paladins and every warrior will want to claim her. She is, however, Roland's true mate yet he can never claim her. He fears that he would be unable to control the bloodlust that threatens to consume him. Facing Paladins who would force her to join with them and enemies who seek to trap her, Karissa turns to Roland to keep her safe. As darkness falls all around them, Roland faces the unthinkable to save his mate. This is a new and exciting world in which good and evil fight for dominance. Neither is clear cut and that makes for an intriguing plot with many twists and turns. The characters are interesting and well developed. Roland and Karissa have fantastic chemistry. The author gives enough detail and history so that the reader can really be part of this world. Secondary characters add to the story but also give some very interesting possibilities for future stories. I enjoyed the nonstop action that was paired with a sensual love story. The writing is smooth and I liked the way the author moves between the various factions. There is a lot going on, especially at the end, yet the plot still flows nicely. I really became attached to Roland and Karissa, not to mention a few of those other sexy Paladins. I can't wait for the next installment in this wonderful new series. I'm in for the long haul.
