A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Kittybooboo13

This is a great book, if you’re into Westerns (think Louis L'Amour style) and into the Supernatural (shifters and vampires). It has gritty, fast-paced action with tough women characters like Annie Oakley or sensual like Mae West. The plot started with hints of the Civil War, but told during Grant’s presidency. Very grizzly outcomes for characters matched the pace of the story. It was a quick read, but I do not recommend reading this novel prior to eating or sleeping. I enjoyed it most of the time, but I had moments when I needed a break. Very realistic in terms of how a Gatling gun would work, when it was designed, and the after-effects of the Civil War. Be careful as this book will intrigue any who enjoy the Supernatural, the West, or Civil War weaponry.

What I did not like, I suspect for Western readers will just be a day in the park: the violence as there were lots of killing and mayhem throughout the book. Peppery language is used very casually which could offend some readers. I recommend flipping through the book and checking out the various scenarios for language usage prior to reading this book to see if it fits your comfort zone. I admit the pairing of gritty Westerns with the Supernatural is unusual, but the results (in this case) are spectacular. I want more!
