Return to Ruby's Ranch

Ruby's Ranch, #1

A lot of romance novels are pretty much the same. But this romance is different. The author mixes the romance with a mystery as well as a great western plot. The story kept my attention throughout.

Ruby Lattrell heads to the family ranch after her Grannie died. The ranch needs so much work. It’s full of memories but the ranch itself is in dire need of updating and repairs. It seems like a fairly easy job. There will be lots of work, but no real problems. Oh no, that's not really how it turns out. The reader thinks that they have all the questions answered but when you turn the page you realize you're so wrong. Ruby starts going through old papers and documents and things start to get more and more confusing. Grannie was either senile or filled with anger. She had taken her shotgun and killed the bull that had taken Grandpa. Was Grannie mad all her life? I mean that in both ways. Was she angry and was she on the brink of insanity? This is not the only question the author gives you for thought. What about Ruby's mother? She had just disappeared. She was never spoken of again and her father had taken her and Jake, her brother, away from Grannie's without a word spoken. So many questions need to be answered about this family.

When it comes to the hot bits. The author gives you some steamy parts to the story also. Ruby and Billy MacCallister, a cowboy, crank up the passion. The steam is hot and the author has you just a little heated as Ruby takes this cowboy to bed. It will make you hold your breath for a few seconds and your heart will beat hard. Those pages can't turn fast enough.

The basis of the book is about the different stages of family. The past, the splitting of the family, the coming back together and starting over. The author gives readers a lot to think of. Perhaps compare your own family to some of what Ruby's family is going through. Through it all, one constant for Ruby is a need for her mind and body and that is, Billy MacCallister.

The author details the characters and places. The sex isn't glossed over but it isn’t the whole book either. The lust turns into a loving romance. You'll have to pick up a copy and read to find out.

There's nothing like a cowboy to bring things together. The ending was rather a surprise with a lot of twists and turns. It will keep you in suspense until the very end. I like a book that leaves you wanting more and this is one of them. I’m hoping the author has another book coming about Ruby and Billy.
