Interview

Hi Sam. Thanks for joining us today to discuss your latest book. Please tell us a bit about Axton and how you came up with the characters and the storyline. Is this part of a series? If yes, which series and number.

It all started with this:

Ten years ago, the Four Kings killed my friend.

I’m not going to kill them.

I’m going to make every single one of them pay.

Make them pray for death, and take everything they’ve ever loved.

This is not revenge. This is justice.

Plain and simple.

I wrote this in my notebook one night. That’s how Taylor came to me. Before I knew what was happening, I kept on writing, and the Four Kings Empire came to me. Axton, being the first, and I knew this was going to be a completely different story to any I’d wrote. First, it’s a full-length story, and second, Taylor isn’t sitting around waiting for something to happen. She’s planning and she’s not about to fall for any of their tricks.

Yes, it’s a series. Four Kings Empire and Axton is the first book. Each story can be read as a standalone.

What can readers expect from a Sam Crescent book?

I’m a HEA fanatic. When I read a book or write one, there has to be one. Also, Evernight Publishing call me the BBW queen. So, big beautiful women, real stories for real women, alpha men, strong, dominant, and lots of sexy times, along with a happy ever after.

You have written a lot of books for Evernight Publishing. How did you get started writing for them and how can other authors do the same?

I know, right. Can you believe I got rejected by them a couple of times to start off with. Let’s see, I loved several of their authors. Their reputation, even open a short time, was amazing. I knew I wanted to be with them. When I wrote Blackmailed by the Beast, a fellow author advised I submit to them. I did, and it was my first acceptance. I’ve not looked back since.

For other authors. Write what you love and what fills you with passion. That’s what I do every single story not matter how big or small. Explore Evernight, reach out, talk to them. They’re pretty amazing.

When did you start reading romance? Do you remember your first romance novel?

So long ago. I was a teenager and my first romance was a Mills and Boons story (UK version of Harlequin). I loved the story, the angst, and the romance. The sex was a little tame but I soon discovered a whole new world with Lora Leigh.

You have been on the cutting edge when it comes to covering romance subgenres. What do you see as the next big thing?

Wow, to be honest, I never write to what sells hot at the moment. I’m first and foremost a reader. It’s why I started writing. I wanted a story with a full figured heroine and I couldn’t find what I was looking for. My best friend (he’s my rock) kept telling me to write. I’ve always been making up stories, writing them down, and then one day, I just did it. I sat and wrote and to be honest, I’ve not stopped.

I have no idea what the next big thing will be. For me, it’ll be what I want to read next, I’ll write it.

What’s your perfect date?

I think this will always involve food. We share a beautiful, candlelit dinner. I prefer informality, so it’s more relaxed, we talk and connect. Afterward, we walk along the beachfront. I love the ocean and going for long walks, hold hands, and enjoy each other’s company.

I hear you’re a cook and a baker. What’s your favorite item to serve?

Meatballs and pasta. I don’t know if it’s because of watching Lady and the Tramp as a child. I love that meatball scene, or because they are just my favorite to eat.

What’s your all-time favorite romance series?

I can’t pick. I’ve tried and it’s not going to work. Too many amazing, awesome authors out there that I can’t pick just one.

Where is the best place for readers to hang out with you?

What’s your favorite item to snack on?

I love Haribo of any kind. Their tangtastics are some of my faves.

You have written over 150 stories. What keeps you going?

My characters. To be honest, I had no idea that I’d still be here but I just love writing so much. I’ve got so many stories to tell and now that I’m writing full-length books, I’m delving into topics I’ve put off for so long, but no more. There is a lot more to come from me.

Do you have a planner or just wing it?

This depends on the story. Axton was a bit of both as I had to get all the notes that just suddenly came to me. It was that instant. Other times I will open a word doc and just let the writing take over.

Thanks for joining us today. It has been great having you over.

Thank you all so much for having me. It has been a pleasure.
