Tangled Threads

Elemental Assassin, Book #4

Tangled Threads by Jennifer Estep is another enthralling look at former assassin Gin Blanco who has declared war on Mab Monroe, Fire elemental, and is taunting her by leaving a Spider rune whenever she kills another of Mab’s henchmen.  A new player has entered into the mix, another deadly assassin, Elektra LaFleur, whose calling card is an orchid and who may be as lethal as Gin herself.  LaFleur commands the element of electricity to devastating effect and has Gin in her sights already because of lawyer Jonah McAllister’s antipathy but she doesn’t realize yet that she is targeting Gin both as the proprietor of the Pork Pit and as the assassin the Spider in addition to Gin’s sister, police detective Bria Coolidge.   Gin has reluctantly come to accept that there is a growing number of people with ties to her, including Owen Grayson, who seems to be trying to deepen their relationship as well as her foster brother Finnegan Lane and all of the others whose lives she has touched positively.  She continues her fight for the underdogs who are being oppressed by Mab and her minions but fears the entanglements that are becoming ever deeper as more and more people become important to her and therefore potential hostages.  Only time will tell whether she will survive the threats to her life as she tries to navigate the confusing tangle of her personal affairs.

The fourth installment in the Elemental Assassins series is just as fascinating as the rest.  Gin is the product of a traumatic childhood and has necessarily become a disciplined and self-contained person but she has not lost her humanity despite her vocation as an assassin.  Surrounded by fascinating and personable companions, Gin continues to discover the events that helped shape her background and struggles to find acceptance of her nature in those whose opinions she values.

Book Blurb for Tangled Threads

I’d rather face a dozen lethal assassins any night than deal with something as tricky, convoluted, and fragile as my feelings.

But here I am. Gin Blanco, the semi-retired assassin known as the Spider. Hovering outside sexy businessman Owen Grayson’s front door like a nervous teenage girl. One thing I like about Owen: he doesn’t shy away from my past—or my present. And right now I have a bull’s-eye on my forehead. Cold-blooded Fire elemental Mab Monroe has hired one of the smartest assassins in the business to trap me. Elektra LaFleur is skilled and efficient, with deadly electrical elemental magic as potent as my own Ice and Stone powers. Which means there’s a fifty-fifty chance one of us won’t survive this battle. I intend to kill LaFleur—or die trying—because Mab wants the assassin to take out my baby sister, Detective Bria Coolidge, too. The only problem is, Bria has no idea I’m her long-lost sibling . . . or that I’m the murderer she’s been chasing through Ashland for weeks. And what Bria doesn’t know just might get us both dead. . . .
