“The Awakening” is a wonderfully enchanting debut novel in Mary Abshire’s new series. The female lead is a rare breed, and she has no memory. This means she doesn’t remember how she got to the dump surrounded by 30 bodies of different races. This also means she has no memory of her past or even her name. The only clue’s left to help her find her past is a couple receipts and a poisonous dagger with the initials ‘SB’.
In the first page of “The Awakening” the reader is set off on a path that is filled with action and adventure. With some nifty tricks, like walking through walls, and turning to mist SB begins to feel a greater distance between her and her companions. She doesn’t know where this path will lead but it is one that is sure to be difficult, dark, and “Awakening”.
My feelings towards “The Awakening” are all good, and excited about reading a new author that has a magnificent talent for writing! You would think that the main character not having any memories would pretty much exhaust all hope for this book. But, that is the farthest thing from the truth; Mary Abshire brings a whole new meaning to opening your mind to infinite possibilities.
Throughout the pages of this book you meet many different breeds of supernatural characters, which of course makes it all the more interesting. Up until the end of this book I never found myself checking to see how much of it was left, which is an amazing prospect. If you love a ménage of supernatural beings, some romance, and some very twisted mystery than this is definitely a book you need to read!
She's the only one of her kind. And she doesn't even know her name.
Two investigators--one human, one vampire--find a young woman among a mass of dead bodies. She has no memories, and nothing but her clothes, two receipts, and a mysterious dagger carved with the initials `SB'.
As she seeks her identity, SB realizes she's unlike any other creature in the world, making her the most valuable person on the planet. And the most wanted.
